FRT FTW!!!

as a rule of thumb: all lizards need UV, snakes do not. all turtles that bask also need UV, all fully aquatic species do not. This is what I have been going by and I have not had a problem but I am sure there are exceptions. It is always best to double check with a good care sheet or someone that has kept that animal before you get one.

thought garter snakes use UV

Nocturnal animals do not require UV...

As for needing heat... consider the temperatures where the enclosure is going to be kept... then find animals who come from areas that supply such conditions...
