Just keep up the good work. Your fish are beautiful. I have been putting off getting some of my own for too long. I may have goofed when I went for the electric blue acaras, carpintis may have been a better choice.

Am getting ready to pull the trigger on these man they are stunning.Did you get these form COTA ? What size tank is that and wondering can i keep a few or a pair in a 90 gallon ? Also do they need gravel or can it be coarse sand. Water perimeters ? Food and or any other tips for keeping them. Much thanks this will be a tank just for them btw

Yes these originally can from COTA imported into the UK by Rob at Lincs fish. There currently in a 6.5ft 200uk gal tank. You should get away with a group of small growouts in a 90gal, then when a pair develops they will need the entire tank to themselves. Gravel or sand it's just a matter of choice. They will dig around happily in ever. As for food and water there not fussy at all. Any quality pellet will do, and a good water change schedule. Good luck thea beautiful fish to keep, I'm sure you'll not be disappointed.
I'll try to get some update pics later. I've now had mine 1 year.

Thanks a bunch for the info . Was trying to do EBJD on and off for a year and they just dont live, Been keeping discus for a few years and got bored with them and the daily maintenance is a bit much.Just happened upon a picture of one of these full grown and it was WOW.Just ordered 7 for the 90 gallon and should have no trouble selling the grow outs ...and or future fry haha. Thanks again.

No need for high temps, carpintis are fine at 76-78F, even juvies. Some people keep them in much cooler water. I personally think that a pair will be a tight fit in a 90 gallon.

OK thought that was a bit warm thanks. This is a whole new direction in fish keeping for me as its been all Africans and Discus up till now.Have Always considered a larger tank and have room for it ..barely but cut down from 5 tanks to the 90 in a 600 square foot condo ..yup snug so if we really like them may upgrade ....the story continues lol thanks to all
