Man DB, sorry to hear. Atleast it wasn't completely unexpected and you saw it coming. Though that makes it no better. Speaking from personal experience an unexpected death is worse than one that is expected. Just don't give up on the hobby. Remember you've done brace things others didn't. Paved the way for some of us. Proved that all we ever need is a better understanding of the fish to make things work. To me anyway.

Yeah, but how long should they have lived?

Guessing its the stupid Lince. Can't wait to get that A hole outta there...... I knew he was gonna irritate others but I guess I'm still in denile about "how" much it pisses other fish off. A Vatf, 3 Armatus, 2 wolves, and 2 Dorado. All coincidence? Or all work of the Lince?

Maybe he wouldn't be such an irritating ass if he was raised with a group of Goonch!?!?!

Pisses off enough right now that I wanna unleash the friggin Tigers. Cut all 3 loose in the 750. Bet he wouldn't be swimming that tank all peacockish tomorrow morning.......

Is the lince aggressive or are you saying it's high activity level irritates everyone?

I think the Lince just irritates them...... I know he pisses them off or he wouldn't have the marks to prove it... He swims a lot but also chases the other fish. I have never seen him leave any kind of teethmark but they still get darty with the Lince on thier heels....

I thought the stupid thing was done growing 6" ago. Things gottta be 2'.

Jar and Lince are a match made in heaven. Lince is low to mid water, Aro hangs up towards the top.

I think the issue lies in height. Get a tank tall enough to keep Lince off the top and it should work..... Me - I'm gonna toss the puddy where it belongs... In a pond. When we move I'll likley do a landscaping brick/liner pond for him at the new place.

Seems like we've been experiencing some losses lately. My condolences, losing prized monsters always hurts. Keeping a mixed predator community is tricky as hell. But like others that have mentioned, my GATF really blossomed when he/she was the only true apex predator that ate first every time. Unless there was a huge amount of swimming space, mixing other alphas such as arowanas and doradoes can always spell disaster as they are each powerful enough in their own regards to either damage themselves or others.

The largest variant of lince is said to max at 40" if my memory serves me right. He must be your largest fish now, so that would aid in him intimidating anyone.

I'd agree with green, I've never kept any apex like gatf or aimara etc, but even throughout the cichlids and oddballs it only ever seemed like the dominant fish flourished and grew fastest ofcourse.

Sorry for your loss DB! You were the one that got me into Dorado's and they still are probably my favorite river monsters to date. Robert and Raymond were both enjoyable to watch. It's always a gut punch to lose something you invested so much time in.

I just assumed they maxed out at 50 cm. A meter long fish that swims that much would be a friggin nightmare. At least I'll have room soon......

My issue is half the fun of having a fish tank is watching the fish interact with eachother. To me it's no fun and borderline boring to watch one fish just sit there. I've always thought that unless a true Apex pred most fish are best kept in groups. Guess I just need to find a managable group of non apex fish to keep. I have a few tanks that have 1 fish in with rays and it just doesn't do it for me - keeps my attention long enough to offer a snack and move on to a hopefully more entertaining tank......

Curious what you guys would do with a 10x4 750???? I'd like to know your opinions...... What would be interesting and DIFFERENT????

I agree with you. If I were you I'd go with smaller species of wolves personally. I like watching my gold and odoe interact swimming about around the dw so I'd try for a pack of both of about 6+ each. Add some SD too for more movement and aggression spread maybe. Then I'd have a curu and a mala for biggest species. Then do some cats like a trachy, maybe some ornate pims maybe even grow some jaguar cats out too since I stay up late a lot and watch the fish come out. There's only two cichlids I like so I'd get those which are jags and argenteas. Maybe try to grow some erythrinus out alone, I have one that's the dominant fish and he's grown fast for me gotten thick and everything. That's it off the top of my head. I'm sure if I were to come across any species that interest me Id add them if I felt it were realistic. Maybe bichirs.

Like you, specimen tanks aren't my thing, I like watching fish interact, which is why I'd try and have what I deem mostly active fish and then some that I just like personally. And which is why I'd probably add some stock and remove some here and there for the experience to see how they interact. But my for sure stock in that tank would be the wolves and odoe. I know I would definitely try a wyckii once all the wolves and odoe are atleast 10" because that's my favorite catfish and arapaimag said over 600g they can be comm with little to no problems. And being their a medium sized cat maxing at 2' usually, sometimes a bit bigger or smaller (22-28").

It's either try that or do the big three for me, dorado aimara and wyckii

I guess I'm kind of a catfish snob.... Not many at all appeal to me. Goonch intrigue me but they grow fast. Love the Lince and non stop movement, really enjoy a big group of ornate pims...... Gotta love Gulpers but they don't commune wortha crap. I think Tigs and Vultures are the only cats I like that I've never had......

I can honestly say I'm not down with the smaller wolves. Tried the 6 Golds - one of the worst results I've ever had with a group of fish. Something about the looks of them is a turn off for me. I really prefer the hunchback wolves. BUT already did the hand money out trying to get some Lacs. That's not gonna happen again. Blew a pretty fat stack on "Lacs" and ended up with a pair of wolves most would still call Mala.

Kinda burnt out on Odoe. Such tempermental things. Raised 3 groups now and any kind of teeth in the tan k at all and they won't eat. Have to be apex in the tank. Add even 1 wolf and they're done eating like they did.

Really tough to come up with a sweet tank idea that hasn't been done a million times. Silver Dollars make we want to buy fish to eat them. I have Tiger Dollars in a tank - really have no desire for anymore.....

Cynopotomus and Bicuda would be really sweet, but I could have boughten every one I've seen over the last 10 years and it wouldn't be enough to stock a 180.

I bet like 15 lion fish would be a hell of a sight scooting around in that much room......
