kewpiefishypewpie kewpiefishypewpie Alexxxxsv14 Alexxxxsv14 I had never seen/heard of them either, until Michael Lo Bello posted a picture or two of his pair and they were labeled under the "Rocio" genus... so I had to start digging after I realized they were (now) related to the Jack Dempseys that got me in to the hobby...

duanes duanes I was told there may still be some circling around in the Chicago area, and the info you posted is more or less everything I've been able to come by regarding them

N newworld do you or can you possibly get some photos of your friends? I would love to see more of these guys if possible. I've heard that their breeding process is absolutely remarkable as well

Does anyone know the size they max out at? From what I've gathered, it's rare for them to exceed 5.5" or so

Isla Taboga Panama via Milwaukee
Don Conkels book, Cichlids of North and Central America, gives them 1 small paragraph
Ad Konings book gives them a few mentions in slightly under a page, on his explanation of Archocentrus, linking them a close cousin to centrarchus, and shows a map with a location.
And Aqualog S American Cichlids III has 4 color photos.
And Sam Bernstein has an entire article dedicated to them in Cichlid Scene, Lee Nutalls on-line cichid mag.

Similar breeding behavior to rainbow cichlids and some Australoheros (chanchitos).
