Royal Pleco

Yup you need algae. Also try to feed as little in the way of protein foods to them, and give them veggies that are pretty high in roughage... good for their digestion processes.

Plecos in general will suck on slime coats, sometimes because of malnurishment, others because they can. There are a lot of fish that are still and won't move when they do it... that's why they are a poor choice with bichirs.

They need driftwood to naw at. I used to find little wood chips that my Panque would chew off the big driftwood.

thanks for all the advice guys! as far as diet ive been offering sweet potato slices and algae wafers. i will try other foods, but these are what i started with? i'm open for dietary suggestions.

Despite the fact that this thread is kind of old...

Pretty much feed any kind of vegetable matter that your Plecos seem to like, which is almost everything...

And yeah, keep driftwood in the tank, as Royal Plecos eat wood.

*that's what he said :naughty:*

plecos are easy to keep alive just do your research. There wood eaters herbivores and carnivores. So each will have its own dietary needs. Years ago people thought all plecos ate were algae. I have never had any kind of pleco go after slime coat and I had at one time all three types carnivore herbivore and wood eaters but in differant tanks.
