Rubbermaid 300 gallon stock tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ill be posting a thread of it when its done..

Thanks for the inputs guys, better to know ahead of time.

JohnG-how much would I expect to spend as far as lumber and linings go for a frame that size? A simple estimate is fine, thank you!

On lumber I just spent about $100-125. Took 25 2x4s and 4 sheets of plywood, the one I just made is only a 4'x8', I am just using it to hold my males when the females have had enough of them. You could easily make something big like a 8'x8' for under $200 in lumber.

The liner I am using is a firestone 45mil thick liner. Its one that was on my 6x10 plywood tank that i tore down last week, they are great liners, used it for over a year on that pond, with massive rays, without any issues and its still good. Depending on the size your looking somewhere in the $200-300 range. These are the liners I used: http://www.pondliner.com/category/firestone_epdm_pond_liner

for me if you are thinking of getting something as small as a 300 gal i would just get a normal tank glass or acrylic yes its more expencive but at least you get to see the rays properly

them rubbermaid things are only good for a massive tank 1000 gal + or a temp tank

just my opinion

John- for that price i may have to look into it especially since it will give me he chance to put in a viewing window to be able to see the rays better as T1 said. Thanks a ton for the info and if i ever build my own tank and make this happen i will be sure to give credit where credit is due.

I looked at the rubbermaid stock tanks not long ago when I was trying to find a way to build a cheap holding pond for my males. If your looking at them online the dimensions they list are very misleading, atleast for our purposes. They say they are something like 5'x6', and they are at the top, but they get smaller as you go lower and the floor is only about 48"x42". I personally wouldn't use one for rays much over 12-14".

IMO your better off getting a good pond liner and building yourself a simple 2x4 and plywood frame for it. I built the frame for one in about 6 hours thanks to my new nail gun.

+1
