I want to set-up a saltwater eel tank. I have a 55 gallon I'm going to use and I have done some research and there are a few that would work well in this size tank. I want to do live sand and live rock maybe a few hard corals in it. I dont know how ever if this will work with eels. This will be my first time with true eels and I want to get as much information before I begin. So if you know if this will work or not let me know. Maybe some good corals if it will. Also if you have any suggestions on the type of eel. Last thing is I have read in multiple places eels like to have a companion, if so let me know. Thanks everyone.

There aren't very many eels that can live long term in a 55 gallon tank. Good luck.

Have you ever kept a salt water tank before?

Yes, but never eels. I have been told that there are some smaller moray eels like the snowflake, that can live long term in a 55 gallon tank. So thats why I picked my 55 gallon to make into my eel tank.

yes he can all depends his growth rate and I have a 75 gallon so he would be ok until he gets bigger far as the corals I don't have any advice on them I haven
t been doing a salt tank that long myself I'm still trying to learn about some corals that would be good for my tank

I had a snowflake in a 55 for a few years, he out grew it and went into first a 75 and then a 125. They don't stay small. Mine died at 28" long and about as big around as a child's arm.

so i have a 75 i just dont want to set it up because all i got is a 75 tank no lid no light no filter no stand no nothing. i already started a saltwater set up in my 55 so i could start a juvenile in this 55 and then in a year or so i can move him to a 75 when i have all the things and the tank has been running for a while. that would be cool. since by then i would have a very established saltwater tank and i could do a small reef set up. but still any info on corals i dont know anything about them at all

That is a good plan. A snowflake is good in a 55 for at least 3 years.

Warning: you will know its time to move him when you start loosing fish. Mine even ate a niger trigger!!! They eat everything.

i was looking at this other eel on liveaquaria.com (i heard its the best place to buy fish online) i think it was called a marbled moray eel. it says it only gets 2ft long max and it could live in a 55gallon no it also said it was very aggresive so it would probably have to be a species only tank. didnt know if anyone knew anything about this guy.
