Hey all! This is a silly question, but I'm super picky with our rays as I know a lot of you are, so I figured I won't feel *too* silly asking :grinno: I'm in the process of switching out the sand in our quarantine tank; I used playsand which we've had really good luck with in the past, but this stuff is sticking to them like I've never had before...it's insane and driving me crazy! So I'll be switching over to a Caribsea sand I think, but I'm not sure about the colors. I'm trying to get a good feel for them from the pics online, but I can't visualize! I really like light colored sand, but not super white (the color of regular play sand is my fav). Does anyone have torpedo beach or crystal river in their tank that they have a pic of their rays on? Or any of the other colors for that matter? I'm in the process of finishing the setup of their new grow-out ponds too, and since there isn't a viewing panel I'm thinking of doing a light sand for the leos (I don't have them yet, but I want their home ready;) and maybe black for the hystrix, so that they really pop when viewed from above. So if you have black sand (even though it's not my fav) I'd love to see a pic of that, too!

I've been searching for good ray pic threads on here, but I just haven't had any luck pulling up anything, even though I know I've come across some before! I'd so love it if you guys wouldn't mind showing off your rays again ;)

I finally stumbled on some pics on MFK, and found some sand specs on Caribsea's site. I saw Torpedo Beach in a thread (I think JohnG's - what an awesome ray group!), but I'm still looking for Sunset Gold and Crystal River pics. I like the sand that someone found at a landscape supply, but I'm not sure where to even start with that! :D

Thanks John, I appreciate it! I just LOVE your ray group, especially your leos. Just beautiful!!!

i have peace river and torpedo beech. i like the torpedo beech with a black background a lot better w the leos

Thanks vamptrev for the suggestion! I'm leaning towards torpedo beach anyway, so I'll probably just go with that. (and it's the only more natural color that our LFS has in stock right now!). Thanks again! How's your preggo leo coming along?

Here is Crystal river. I love it.

How does the grain size of the peace river and torpedo beech sand compare to moon sand ?

So the kids over-ruled the Torpedo Beach and opted for Crystal River, which is fine...they look pretty darn close to me! Just finished getting it in the tank, and am already loving how it's not sticking all over the rays. Thanks for the input, everyone! Now if I could just convince my hubby that the black background would look better than the marine blue I'd be all set ;)

Unless Caribsea also makes Peace River as a sand color I haven't seen before, I'm pretty sure it's just a very small grained gravel...but still bigger than the courser sands that are out there. I think Torpedo Beach and Crystal River are very similar in grain size, and moon sand is smaller/finer than the others. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though :D
