Just wondering if anyone knows about how long it takes for a savannah to become full grown. I have had mine about a year. Got her at seven inches and she is now about twenty one inches. Does that sound about right for a one year old? i am hoping she'll get to three feet at least...does anyone know how long that might take? she gets about 2-3 adult mice per week now

I've never kept one, but that seems like it might be on the small range for a years worth of growth based on what I've heard from other keepers. I'd post this question in the Savannah monitor subforum on Kingsnake.com They could probably give you a much better answer there.

That sounds right for a yearling, almost a little too big that soon though. I might suggest cutting back on the mice. Rodents don't make up a large part of their diet in the wild, and obesity is a common issue with savs. Try giving it more insects and canned monitor food. Also, the occasional raw egg is a healthier treat than a mouse.

Yep, definitely more insects.
crickets, roaches, silkworms....
Make sure she has a good source of UVB, that will help her reach maximum size.

That is not too fast. A healthy varanid grows ALOT within the first 2-3 years of it's life. Larger species such as V. Salvator can reach in excess of 3 feet within the first year of life.

if you continue to feed it alot of mice,i would recomend breeding mice and giving the mice vitamins.10%of what the mouse eats will be transfered to the monitor through digestion . its good to keep the food healthy if you want to keep the predator healthy
