I’m interested in selling my Eheim 2262 that I have running on my 125 gallon tank with 2 AC 110’s. Based on the thread of longevity filters it seems the Eheim 2217 got brought up a lot with lasting 10+ years (as well as the AC110’s).

Im 99% sure on this route but are there any other recommendations. I know some will call me crazy but the 2262 seems like overkill for my set up and it’s kind of a pain in terms of size, configuration, maintenance. The lack of self priming is annoying but I’m not sure the 2217 has any either? Any recommendations or opinions are welcome. Thanks

Great idea. In fact I'm gonna help you out, I'll go ahead and buy you a new 2217 and you can pack that 2262 up and just send it right to me instead of going through all the hassle of selling it.
I figured I would get one of these responses but didn’t expect it to be the first one haha. You win. 🥇

Well just out of curiosity what other responses were you expecting? You're trying to bench Tom Brady and put a highschooler in the game for some reason.

Only pros I can think of:
-slightly easier maintenance, you still have to disconnect and clean it out it's just not as cumbersome
-slightly less noise maybe?
-you'd probably pocket some cash if you sold and replaced it.

Well, for starters parts availability for the 2262 seems to be a real problem.

After that I would cite a vastly elongated intake elbow, there’s a modification thread on here but it’s not a small project either. Fluval did it right with the FX series canisters being flexible, allowing you to run them close to a wall. The 2262 has to be angled in stock configuration.
Purging the 2262 has been rather annoying as well. Some seem to have it down to a science by gravity feeding the system but that hasn’t worked for me. I find I’m going as far as filling it up entirely and submerging the intake hose just to get it running after cleaning it out periodically. Otherwise the motor dry runs as it’s incapable of pushing the air pockets up through the exhaust tube. Fluvals have been great with purging canister systems but the longevity award clearly goes to Eheim.

Howdy, I have a 2262 on my 55 gallon, I have anither 2262 on my 75 gallon. I got those filters over 15 years ago and they have been running and running and running. I run them with filter foam on the intakes, which prolongs service intervals.
I think downsizing filtration is always a bad idea. The filter is the heart, the lungs and the liver of your tank.
Just my two cents, HarleyK

here is one of my setups, you might be able to make out the foam filter in the back corner of the tank. The hamper houses the 2262.
