Setting up a used 450 gallon tank

Crap! I forgot about that. Yeah they were together about 3 months! The Angle fish tank cracked, an old 180 I had for years. I dumped the Angles in the 450 because I had no where else to put them. That was before I set up the 360.

So the Arowana was fine with the Angles, no issue at all. The Arowana was well fed! The damn gar was a monster, never killed one but ripped apart some fins. The gar was well fed also but it's just mean...

Lighting is Coral Life compact units. I got em all used from Craig's list and changed out the bulbs. I think all the bulbs are the white 10K? 65Watts? does that sound right? I'll check tonight when I get home from work.

The drain is nice! I use a 1.5" PVC line along the backs of the tanks at about 1" above the floor (the lower the better, I whish I went all the way to the floor). Then I just tap into that line with T fittings to all my tanks (two at the moment). I run a 1.5 inch drain from each tank straight to this drain. I think it's a little over kill but it's fun to drain the whole tank in 5 minutes! It was very helpful during set up but completely useless now that the tank is up and running.
I also run a drain line from my sumps. If I ever need to drain the sumps I just open that line and Walla, water gone.
Then I was cleaning gravel one day into a bucket and thought "why not tap this python hose right into my drain?" Done. Now I just start my siphon and run the hose into the drain and all the gravel cleaning poop water goes out to my yard, plants love it! No more buckets for me

Another plan (haven't shared with wife) is to build an outside pond the butts up against the house. Then cut out the basement wall and put an acrylic window in to view the pond from the inside. Possibly enclose the pond in a green house/conservatory type building to enjoy year round. Something in the ball park of 10K gallons lol

AWESOME TANK....I will be be building a tank like this in the future. It will be bigger than 450 gal. But I doubt I can make it look as nice as yours. The out top off and discharge is excellent. That is bad ass. I will be using your thread as a guide when I am building mine up.

Yeah I like the pump return location, I used it on my 360 also. It looks good and there's no syphon issues overflowing my sump when I lose power. win/win.

Yes. I hate those corner boxes. I would like to build a root like structure for each one to hide the overflows. Make it look like a flooded amazon rain forest. Pictures of the roots I want to copy.
