Thanks guys! This thread is a couple months old. The background looks great now with the algae growth. I couldn't be happier with the natural look vs.. the laboratory look. I recommend it for "show" tanks. My fish room/grow out tanks are still bare bottom for heavy feeding and maintenance ease.

The tank has been set up about three months now. Every fish transfered fine (touch wood).
Stocking is a Black Aro, 3 silver dollars, 2 bala's, 4 ropes, 6 Angels, common pleco, "The Boss" a red tailed black shark, and a Raphael Cat I never see.

I'm setting up another tank in the same room http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=314171
So the room is a mess, trying to get good pics is difficult, you guys understand :)

I added a simple utility drain. You know how it is when you just want to drain a filter or suck the bottom 1" of water/poop from the bottom of the sump???
This is a picture of the utility drain with a cap. I just unscrew the cap and run my tubing in there and everything drains to the yard.
Holy crap ! This is my favorite post yet and I totally missed it. I am gonna go by home depot on lunch break anyway for some supplies....

Also I was wondering what type of lighting your using and what bulbs currently are installed ?

Thanks for such a great write up.

My favorite part of the drain is I don't have to drill the tank or have a nasty looking overflow etc. I can probably drain my living room tanks quick enough with 2" PVC

Lighting is Coral Life compact units. I got em all used from Craig's list and changed out the bulbs. I think all the bulbs are the white 10K? 65Watts? does that sound right? I'll check tonight when I get home from work.

The drain is nice! I use a 1.5" PVC line along the backs of the tanks at about 1" above the floor (the lower the better, I whish I went all the way to the floor). Then I just tap into that line with T fittings to all my tanks (two at the moment). I run a 1.5 inch drain from each tank straight to this drain. I think it's a little over kill but it's fun to drain the whole tank in 5 minutes! It was very helpful during set up but completely useless now that the tank is up and running.
I also run a drain line from my sumps. If I ever need to drain the sumps I just open that line and Walla, water gone.
Then I was cleaning gravel one day into a bucket and thought "why not tap this python hose right into my drain?" Done. Now I just start my siphon and run the hose into the drain and all the gravel cleaning poop water goes out to my yard, plants love it! No more buckets for me :grinno:
