I moved here, just south of San Francisco, about a year ago. I moved from the midwest where I had an abundant supply of freshwater rivers and lakes to fish in.

Are there any good fishing lakes or rivers close enough to SF where I could drive, fish for the day, and drive back the same day? I've yet to find one and everyone here just tells me to fish the ocean.

I'm not looking for any particular species just the standard native stuff: crappie, bass, walleye.

Northern California has some of the best bass fishing in the US. The Delta is at the top of the list but you really need a bass boat to fish it. Some other lakes near you that are worth checking out: San Pablo Res, Lafayette Res, Del Valle, and San Antonio Res. I grew up in the Bay Area and spent a lot of time bass fishing in these resevors.

Yes there are a few i love to fish the rivers you can fish the san lorenzo when it is open and you could do that in a day no problem very nice river

the CA delta is one of the greatest bass fisheries in the world and the spring time is one the best times to catch a monster.. am starting a guide service in the near future and the delta is where i fish the most check out my site...

The Sacramento River Delta looks like a really awesome place to fish. I really wish I had a boat and I don't imagine there is anywhere on the river that rents them. It looks difficult to get access to fish from the bank at least in the northern section near Rio Vista where I am looking to start.
