never caught sheepshead, but i've always kinda wanted to

Bring a scraper and scrape off the Barnacles on the Pilings.......You'll have a pile of Sheepshead in seconds........I've pulled 10lb+ Sheepshead doing so......

You can also Bowfish or Gig them really easy.......They aren't too smart in that regard.......They just move from one side of the Piling to the other........Very predictable.....

barnacles, shrimp, and fiddler crabs are the best baits to use for sheepshead. I typically like to use long fluorocarbon leaders (about 4 to 6 feet long) with a split shot and a small hook. I don't like using circle hooks because since they have so many rows of teeth you can easily slide the hook over their teeth and not hook the fish so at least in my experiences J-hooks work best. If the water is murky I'll just use a long leader with a jighead and that works fine. check this one out. I caught it out in Tampa when I was there for valentine's day weekend with my fiancée. It came weighing at around 3.5lbs which is about the average sized sheepshead for that particular area.

I miss fishing season, too much snow up north still! It's nice to see talk about fishing =]

yeah man definitely. I try to go to the Florida Keys as often as I can to load up my cooler or to go sharking but yeah lately it's been a bit too cold. In that pic with me holding the sheepshead the water temp was in the mid-50s. I couldn't land anything but small speckled sea trout, small flounder, and ladyfish...it was a miracle that I hooked up to that sheepshead and my fiancée landed a fat mangrove snapper
