You couldn't make these up if you tried.
I once saw a semi tractor-trailer w/ 50' trailer where the driver tried to make a tight left turn onto a narrow service lane on an overpass in order to head south on the road beneath the overpass.
The driver took the tractor wide right and drove onto the sidewalk and grass with all right tires and continued to "complete" his turn.
He didn't go wide enough...
The left tires of the trailer went up onto the sidewalk of the overpass and this being higher than a normal sidewalk to better protect the pedestrians crossing on the overpass, caused the trailer to lean hard right while the tractor was leaning hard left.
The kingpin held and the twisting lifted a good portion of the weight of the tractor off the left drive tires. The right tires dug a hole in the dirt to no avail.
The result?
A total shutdown of that major intersection service lane and part of the overpass itself for many MANY hours. The pressure on the kingpin was so great they couldn't release it. Massive tow trucks couldn't get proper positioning to move them.
And the funniest part???
The side of the trailer blatantly advertised one very apropos word...
SWIFT
and I didn't have a camera.... but still trying to find a picture of it.
Circa about 6 years ago at the intersection of E Little Creek Rd and Tidewater Drive in Norfolk, Virginia.
