You can always add silicone for insurance... it doesn't bond very well to PVC, but it will seal. Because of this it makes a good gasket that can still be removed.

If you do this, leave the fitting slightly loose till silicone is cured, then tighten like you would a gasket, otherwise the silicone will make the other gasket slip out from under the 'nut'.
i use the gray pvc pipe fittings for electrical conduit. They are non tapered, so they close completely shut. these bulkheads only have silicone. No gasket. No leaks either. crappy pics. i know.
