Here my Pterygoplichthys Joselimaianus, aka L001 / L022 ( i dont know why there's 2 L numbers).

Anyway, he (or she) is awesome. Has grown a LOT in a year, now measuring exactly 15 cm with another +-10 cm left to grow. Tends to sleep all day though, and used to camp out in that ship, which is no more, now it's taken residence in a big coconut. I've never ever seen any algae in my tank. And for some reason wont touch the zuchini/courgette ( i boiled it for a minute or 2 ), but loves cucumber. Any other suggestions ??

Oh and one more question, sometimes his skin appears to have lighter blotches, especially if i shine a light on his belly, his belly starts to change color? Is this normal, Anyone ???

LOVE THE FORUM!

my favorite pleco. try sinking the zucchini raw without boiling it. he should also probably start eating sinking pellets by now for more protein intake, mine eat medium sized NLS sinking pellets. plecos usually change colors based on their mood, if they are startled or stressed they will often show a "blotchy" pattern.

Oh that's good to know that the blotches are "fairly" normal, i only started noticing it recently. This lil guy has been eating sinking pellets since he was 2" big and still sucks up everything he can, he actually seems to prefer regular (and cichlid foods) over the pleco tablets for some reason. Someone mentioned frozen spinach, how would that work... i assume we defrost it first, and the throw it in ? but wont that get messy? And spinach always turns the water greenish. I like to treat him as he's definitely the coolest pleco on earth.. .and well deserving of the L001 name!

Thanx for sharing with me.

i would avoid frozen spinach because, like you said, it would be quite messy. you can try some fresh spinach on a veggie clip but i've never had much luck getting my joseli's to eat "leafy" veggies. as most plecos get large they prefer carnivorous pellets to the algae wafers because they need higher protein intake. many pleco species are almost exclusively carnivorous which is a surprise to a lot of people. i like to feed NLS pellets because they use very good ingredients for protein sources like whole krill and also include lots of spirulina, fruits, and vegetables, which provide a balanced diet for almost any fish species out there.

Try pushing a algae tab into the zucchini. He will likely go after the tab and take onto the zucchini.

Very nice plecos everyone, great read.

Ok... got the options of adding to my pleco collection ...

L015 Peckoltia Vittata and L199 Hypancistrus Furunculus

Which one would you take ...

I prefer both over the L333.

Let me know what you think?
