silver sharks tank size?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You will need a minumum of a five foot tank, i have four in a five foot and they look cramped, they are of sizes up to 12inches...big fish and very active and as said skittish, iam selling my now as feel tanks to small for them as there soooo active

my tank is in my bedroom, i imagine a 8" shark hitting the side would be quite audible when lying in bed!!!!

they are about 1.5 inches, just little....
You will probably need to upgrade in about 7-8 months. The minimum final tank size shoud be a standard 150g (72"x18"wx28"h).

why is the recommended height greater than the width?

The footprint needs to be at least 72x18. I guess if you wanted a tank with a shorter height, you could get a custom tank, but I definitely wouldn't want to go less than two feet, because an adult bala can be more than 9" tall and they are extremely active and jumpy, so I'd give them as much height and width as possible. I just suggested a standard 150 because it has really common dimensions so it would be easier to get.

this mite be a daft question but if there were 2 sharks, the first one upgraded to a bigger tank when needed, and the second, grew as a baby from the large tank.

would the 2nd one generally grow to a larger adult size?

It would depend on their genes, but there wouldn't be a difference in adult size due to the tank size in that situation.

does feeding patterns have a huge affect on their adult size?

i've tried searching this but cannot find it ^

feeding will have an impact as with any fish. a varied diet and feeding small amounts 2-4 times daily will achieve good growth if coupled with adequate filtration and regular 25%+ waterchanges.

once you take care of that though its up to genetics.
