Smallest eels for a mixed tank ?

Hi guys,

I'm not new to the eel thing but just had a fire eel several years back but the bad boy grew too large to accommodate him in a manner suitable for the fish so i got rid of him. I'm thinking about doing a mixed tank and would like an eel or two in there (same species of course) which are the smallest freshwater eels available in the hobby ?

Peacock eels are a good choice, owned one with my tire track and it was fine, They only grow to like 12" at the most. they are really good in price too, pet smart actually sells them for like 12.00 bucks, if you are going to buy from pet smart I suggest putting it in a QT tank for a little bit just to make sure its ok.

I'm from Europe and getting any eels where I'm at is dependent on blind luck... All fish i get go through a smaller QT routine so i'm set for that but choosing a really small and peaceful species is a top priority.

yes you will be fine with the peacock then.. i had him with tetras that were very small and he didnt even bother nor notice them. see if you can order one through your lfs or at a online fish market in europe,

I did exactly that, I'll see how the full grown kubotai fish make it through and will adjust other tank mates accordingly. Thanks

Ok so my eel arrived to the quarantine holding tank at the lfs i have ordered it from, I figure now it's the time to start looking at possible tank mates, thinking about a small shoal of tiger barbs , bristlenose pleco, some corries and i need to re-house 5 clown loaches at least temporarily .
Should i skip the tiger barbs as they are nippy little a******es and look for something else ? I came to know that i can order almost anything from there, so all suggestions will be taken into account. I'm quite fond of German Rams and Electric Blue Rams could they go with it ?

I had two tiger barbs with my peacock eel they didn't bother him but it all depends if ur getting 4-5 barbs they might see him as a threat and will nip at his fins so have 2 tiger barbs also leave the rams alone cichlids are gonna kill him I had a African cichlid in my tank with humans he tried to attack him many times cichlids should honestly be kept only with there own species.

Rams would probably do fine, they're dwarf cichlids which are usually much less aggressive (nowhere near most african cichlids). I've kept rams and apistos in a community tank with guppies, tetras, danios, platies, mollies, killies, etc.

There it is, arrived before rams did, it's sharing the "den" with kuhli loaches and a baby pleco with an identity crisis, all kubotai accounted for but i'm having a hunch that i lost a pair of juvenile harlequin rasboras but can't blame anyone as I have not seen anything suspicious ( a full tummy etc).
