Smallest Pleco

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So I followed your advice WildFya and got 2 Bristlenose Plecos. Also got a small Rubbernose for my 16 gallon.

I also found a L18 for my 30 Community

There are conflicting opinions though as to whether the L18 is a Omnivore/Herbivore. I threw some Zuchinni in there and he tore it to shreds, but should I be feeding shrimp or black worms also?

Yes, they are deep water limnivores that don't adjust to aquaria conditions very well. Check out the dietry thread... they are Baryancistrus.

The 2 Ancistrus you got was a smart move. Hope you got a male and female! They are easy to sex though. Do you have any more pics of the one in your avatar, it doesn't look like a GN.

The plec in your avatar looks like a snowball pleco. It lacks the tell tale sign of all Gold nuggets, the yellow seam on their dorsal.

Your right in that he lacks the yellow bar on his dorsal. I bought him as a gold nugget, though his spots are coming up more white than yellow. I turned out the lights for 24 hours when I added him and shined a flashlight to check on him every few hours. I'll try to get some more pics of him this afternoon. Can a snowball be brown with whitespot though?

There are many blacky/brownish plecos with whitish yellowish spots. The head shape didn't look right to me, as well as the missing of the yellow seam, although on some specimens they differ in the amount they have quite a lot. Get some more pics... bigger ones too if poss!

Thats the best shot I've been able to get and hes hiding in his driftwood log right now. After looking I don't think he is a gold nugget. What L numbers could he fall under? I'd just like to get his diet right, not worried about breeding this guy.

You might look for long fin bushy nose. They are almost always on sale on Auqabid. They are hard to find in a lfs but several people sell them on-line. The long fin are a lot more interesting. There are several different types Albino, Chocolate, Calico or Blue eyed yellow. I'm trying to get a few more up up breeding size right now. I do not have any Calico yet but I may get some if I can find some more tank space.

Well I went back to the LFS and asked to see their order sheet. The place they order from had it listed as a snowball. My next question is $29 overpriced for a snowball? Also the two bushynose are doing great, and so is the rubbernose in my 16.

I do have one problem though. This snowball is a hitman. I woke up the other morning and he was chasing the last of my kribs around the tank and just as I reached for my net he ate my smallest krib. He also managed to flip a clay pot upside down and now when I reach in to right it he attacks my arm and hand. I figured he was just having a bad day, No woke up this morning and hes uprooted, eaten, or just ripped apart about $40 worth of plants.

:WHOA::ROFL: Hilarious. I have never heard of a pleco getting fiesty enough to eat a fish-and a cichlid of all fish. I have no idea what L number he is
