Get some of that mat stuff ive seen it marketed as rhyzomat I think. It's just Coco fiber matting. You can buy sheets of that stuff at greenhouses. That goes under the substrate and the roots grow into it. Give it a biy of time before the sen goes in and you should be fine. Although

Carpet plants look awesome, but I also like having plenty of sandpit space for them to bury. Sand also is better to digest if they accidentally eat it. They seem to like it. 2 if mine like to bury.
