Smallest size Tankmate for Bichirs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well Clown Loaches are deep body Botiine so would be safer, while a Acantopsis choirorhynchus of the same size would probably be in danger

just to ask again how would Victoria cichlids do with a Senegal over the long term, as they are smaller than most Africans?

What Has already been said Is typically true but as always fish have their own personality's Out of 5 sens I have owned in 4 cases the above is true.

My current male is a complete bastage. He killed my albino and has recently also tried to attack my female who is much larger than he. He has however not bothered the electric blue acara in his tank (one is only and inch and a half) or any of the plecos in his tank.

Like with any predatory species watch and make a judgement call.

My ornate was nasty as well but only towards other poly... i doubt an ornate would mess with a cichlid out of aggression... if it were too all it may eat it.

There are lots of ca/sa cichlids that can work with polys, no clue about afticans

If you go with the Senegal you'll have more cichlid options since they stay smaller. I have Congo tetras with no problem/interest shown. Kuhli loaches were a snack for the Palmas (that isn't here any longer as she was beating up the Delhezi.) I still have Kuhlis though with the Del, so I don't think he's eaten them. For kuhlis they're really fat since they're like 6 years old but they're still worm-shaped. :)

I would say nothing small enough for it to even consider prey. I had an albino senegal carry a serpae tetra across a tank. The tetra was fine, just on for a joy ride. The bichir couldnt fit any part of it in its mouth, but that didnt stop him. He was just a baby too. I would say nothing smaller than the 6" range in my own opinion. I currently keep an ornate and delhizi
