Hello,

I was looking through here, and I do have to admit, at one point or another I have had knifefish catch my interest. Considering the size of tank that I will soon have (75 Gallon), what would be the smallest species of Knifefish out there?

Thanks,

Shane, :headbang2

The smallest I can think of is Xenomystus nigri (African Knifefish). It generally will be 8" but said to reach 12"

Ah, I see.
Thank you so much for the picture and the general information!

Shane, :clap

dont goast knifes stay small?

i never thought they got that big... im impressed.

try a green or glass knife, the biggest ive seen is maybe 5in

Not a good choice.

I've seen 2-foot long Eingenmannias caught by fishermen around... They get BIG, although not heavy-bodied. BTW, most captive specimens don't live long enough to grow up.

Best regards.

Daniel.
