What size is the smallest wolffish and how big does it get? What about the second to smallest hoplias?

smallest would be rainbow

I have never kept them but the Hoplias malabaricus (rainbow wolffish is the smallest I have seen imported, they are listed as reaching about 20",
the H. microlepis is listed as only reaching about 14", picture by Brown,
the H. microcephalus is shown as 15",
aqnd the H. brasiliensis is listed as the smallest species at only 6 1/2". Unfortunenately all I can find is pictures of cell tissue and DNA displays of the latter two.

I think you have some of your info mixed up. Erythrinus Erythrinus is the rainbow wolffish/ high-fin wolf fish/ red high-fin wolf fish (all common names), and they reach about 8 inches or so. Hoplias malabaricus are known as common wolves, and you are correct, they can reach about 20". Hoplerythrinus unitaeniatus is another wolf that doesn't get extremely huge. They max out at around 14-16", but require a lot of swimming space because they are the most active of the wolves. They swim almost constantly. Good luck in your wold keeping.

the ranibow wolf fish is the smallest commonly imported species.

Guys,

Can I keep a couple of Hoplias Malabaricus together, in a 250 liter tank. I am receiving them tomorow, around 15 cm's and have heard conflicting info..that they get along, and that they will go at each other..

Opinions?

but more often, they prefer to kill than to accomodate.

but i've also seen them get along on a couple of occasions. but i guess luck is needed for that to happen.

Ive got an Erythrinus erythrinus and would like to try breeding them. Can anyone give advice on how to introduce them (if its possible) and how to tell what sex they are.

Thanks
