What size tank should a smallmouth be housed in? How long can I keep a 3" smallmouth in a 75 gallon along with a green sunfish and a crenicichla sveni? I just can't get myself to get rid of him! (For those who don't know a sveni will get about 10") The smallmouth I bought from one of my LFS and he was housed with tropical temperatures. What temp should I keep it at?

Thanks
Mike

As long as he isn't spazzing the trop temps are ok. Keep them on the lower side though like 75-76. Like I said though....You could probably go up to a year in the 75 gallon. But personally i would take the sveni out of the equation.

20 inches is pretty damn big in the wild for a smb, i catch them up at my lake house along with monster lmb , and pickerel, i think i might do a set up of smb in a 200 gallon if i can obtain it, ill get some pictures up

I have kept LMB before but not SMB. I don't think there is a huge size difference. The specimens I kept were already fairly large when caught and put in the aquarium. (6-7") But I am now attempting to keep two tiny LMB's I just caught last week. One is about 3" and the other is 2.5" or so. I feed them mosquitofish fry and bugs from the spring-fed creek in my backyard. Pictures soon!!!

smb are much more energetic than lmb, keeping that in mind when you set up a tank youll need much more room for swimming, id say equal to what youd put a lmb in
