Channa Micropeltes have a suprabranchial organ, which is basically a lung, i think. That organ enables the Snakehead to breathe air out of the water. It also helps them breathe in poor water conditions. Snakeheads can survive out of the water for about 3 or 4 days, granted they don't dry out. I live in Florida and have caught multiple Snakeheads in lakes. They are invase here so we kill them. I have seen juvenile Snakeheads slithering along banks of lakes or canals, but never full grown ones. From what I've heard from some fishing guys down here, the juveniles can crawl out of the lakes to other bodies of water and begin to invade them.

I would personally recommend you do like Midwater Midwater said and
Try to keep your fish in water.

For what reason would you feel the need to take your Snakehead out of the water?
