Diplo doesn't get darker, so if it is indeed the same fish, it's only washed out colors, on a micro still.

The first picture makes it impossible to make a mistake, while this one could. So if it's the same fish, it's still a micro, except it's therefore extremely stressed by being tugged and fished with a net.

Color is not a very accurate indicator , that comparison pic that's floating around makes it look like there is a big diffrence but there is not.It is using a happy micro and and a stressed diplo . Both species can lighten and darken to almost identical colors.

The only real color diffrence I've noticed between the 2 at that size is the faint blotches on the back between the top lateral line and the dorsal fin. I find that on micros the blotches when visible are more yellow/beige while on diplos they are more red/orange.

Body wise the diplo has a slightly longer/leaner build, longer skull/jaw. micros a slightly blunter head but it's only very slightly diffrent .

Can you get a pic the fish swimming in an aquarium rather the in a net? The diffrences between micro and diplo are very minor at that small size Seeing it from a normal side shot rather then random angles would help .

I hate guessing on these 2 species at this small size because angle of the pic or lighting can really change what your answer would be on the samefish lol

That said I would guess diplo , although I seem to be the only one so I may be wrong , personally if I were looking specifically for one or the other I would want a reliable source to avoid guessing , or grow out out and it'll be one obvious soon .
