Snakeheads in nj?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Let him watch...no biggie as long as rules are followed.

You are not allowed to transport the fish if it is alive so you could be fined or worse if you are caught doing so.

It's a huge problem to transport them alive across state lines. It's a federal ban which makes transporting live SHs across state lines felony trafficking. You're more than welcome to keep any caught snakehead provided the head is immediately removed upon capture. Little side note, catch & release is also against the law where SHs are concerned. Every caught SH, by law, must have it's head removed.

Back in the day (long ago) we got paid 200 bucks per SH that we caught and killed LOL and funny there some signs that read "WANTED DEAD NOT ALIVE" hahaha :D

Enforcing these laws is a prohibitively enormous, pretty much impossible task at the moment. The officials count on awareness and education and people actually reading fishing rules and regulations, etc.; and once in a while scapegoat cases happen to, again, raise awareness, and appeal to the conscience of public at large. They also count on us, fish enthusiasts. Let's not let them down. If worse comes to worst, we may get the Australia and New Zealand treatment and then we all will be unhappy.

Great write-up. Thanks Joe!
