So...You want to get a gulper catfish...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If I remember correctly Viktor, thebiggerthebetter, has kept them together and he has read account of bigger ones grabbing or “mouthing” smaller ones or even same size ones but immediately letting go. I would compare it to going for food but then realizing the fish is not good and is a fellow comrade.

Yeah gulpers are not cannibalistic, I’m going to try and breed them In my 50 gallon tank soon! I’m going to add a storyline of it when I get the other one. I’ve learned a lot considering it’s rarely done. Here’s what I’ve learned:

feed black worms encourages breeding

have a gravel filter and always have clean substrate

slate rock is important, I believe for spawning

LOTS of coverage

PH below 7, slowly lower it if it’s not under 7

imitate rain to encourage breeding

last of all LUCK, luck is very important as you may not have a pair that wants to breed or maturity difference.

I still think a 50 gallon is not big enough for more than 1 gulper but do not let me discourage me but do acknowledge the fact that they are very much likely to not breed any time soon.

The only thing is.... gulpers are VERY lazy and I feel like mine doesn’t know what the other side of the tank looks like??

I see a white discoloration on his head, can you tell me more about that?

Yeah, when I went to start arranging his stuff he went flying into the filter? I think he might be blind though. That’s why all my family says

Edit: wouldn't explain the spot though

what should I do about it? just wait it out?

I have no experience with treating stuff really so I would make a thread about it in the disease section and take several good pictures.
