Some trouble with Vieja/Paratheraps Breidohri

Nope, she started to shred the other fish. I ended up rehoming her to someone who had a much bigger bifa male, and they produce fry.
Glad to hear she found a mate and produced fry as well, guess that's the way I have to go with mine then. Thanks for the replies mate!

Here is an edited version of one of your photos

As Rocksor said, the dark lower lip is often a female trait, and if it was male,at that size above I might expect a steeper profile, its hard to tell from the photo.
But in the light colored photos a few post below, it appears to be male
Mine 1st spawned at about 4" for the male, and slightly smaller for the female, so they are an early maturing species compared most Vieja (normally about 2 years) .

Yea, it's a weird one. Up to a few weeks ago, I would have presumed it was a male due to a lack of a black blotch on its dorsal fin and it also what I thought was a beginning of a nuchal hump forming. But since it turned into its "breeding dress", it has been in this colour and its "hump" has resided, which is quite confusing.

One factor often not considered by aquarists are the other cichlids in the tank, if there is a more dominant, alpha cichlid there (doesn't matter same species, genus or not , this will cause other less dominant males to present subordinate, or female characteristics.
Nuchal humps are liquid filled sacs that continuously react (ebb or grow) with status, so if a more alpha ciclid is in the tank, it may easily shrink, as an instinctual defense mechanism.
Same goes for coloration

I see, must have been a misidentification on my part. Probably assumed it was a male due to it being top dog in the tank and following other Breidohri on this site, must have jumped the gun on sexing it too soon. Well thanks for the further clarification guys, really appreciate it :)

Here's my juvenile breidohri- not sure of the sex yet
