Spiny eel ID

I know not the best pictures but the best I can get for now. Anyone know what it is? I am trying to show the black spots with the tail picture

7 inches. There are multiple that go under peacock. Do you have the Latin to the one you have in mind?

The 2 spiny eels that are usually referred to as peacock are macrognathus aral and macrognathus siamemsis.
I don't think yours is looking like either what with that barring. Better picture is needed.

I am no expert but the middle photo shows the tail with the 4 round spots the same as my peacock eel just a thought.

I agree bathawk that yours is a peacock. Macrognathus siamensis. However with regards to Charney's eel, the presence of spots below the dorsal does not identify it as a peacock. Many spiny eels have them. An example
being this circumcinctus.

It's very hard to get an accurate ID on many of these eels. I hope Charney gets a clear picture of his.

Is this video of the actual fish in question?
I really wish that fishbase had good quality photos of live fish rather than ratty preserved specimens.
To further confuse the ID of your fish look at the 2nd and 3rd of these from an article in 2010.
