Well the water has cleared up quite a bit; I was actually about to see bottom when I came home from work today. The other fish are fine; I still have no idea why the plecos died. Its seems the canopy and poly fiber pads are doing some good...Thanks for all the advice; I'll take some pics tomorrow.

I took some pics of the pool; the water has cleared up tremendously from what it was. The canopy is doing the trick, as well as the poly fiber pads; however, I still am clueless as to why the plecos died:confused:. The other guys are doing fine; gonna get some food for them today, as well as some more poly pads..

Hi Nero, Nice looking start on your pond. Did your liner arrive yet? I am going to build a pond soon and it is good to watch your progress. We will have simular issues in regard to heating in the winter. I am in zone 9 and it looks like most of Ga is in zone 8 http://www.avant-gardening.com/zone.htm . Did you plan to use any insulation to make heating a bit more efficient? I am still in the planning stage and need to get my utilities marked so I don't damage anything during the big dig. I did manage to score a FREE pump from a friend. It's a Wunderflow and has a 1 hp Baldor motor with digital speed control. http://www.amazingpond.com/store/pr...pond_pumps/wunderflow_1_adj_koi_pond_pump.htm
I was like holy @#$% thats a nice pump! He tore out a pond that came with his house and offered me the pump when I told him about needing to build a pond for my RTC and Giraffe cats. So now I need to get motivated and start spending and digging. I also want to have a bottom drain and skimmer. Was suprised to see how much $$$ a good skimmer goes for. But then I got some cheap in me too! Lots of decisions to make and planning to do.... Good to watch your progress!

Wow dude, great deal on that pump; what a steal!! Free, my fav word!! I am still searching for a pump; I may just go with a model that is not my 1st choice so I can get this pond set up sooner rather than later. It will allow me to buy some time to save money for the one I really would like, plus the kids are hounding me for their pool:nilly:. As far as heat goes, I am not worried about that at the moment. The coldest it gets here in Brunswick is maybe mid 40's with an occasional frost. Those days are far and few in between, nothing to cause me any major worry. I do have the liner, a 20x30 epdm I bought from Justliners.com. BTW, I did decide to get rid of the 700; details in the buy and sell forum...

The pickerels are purple; in a couple of days or so they should bloom. As far as the pavers go, I'll need about 40 for the initial perimeter; I may do 2 or 3 rows. Thanks for the flow chart on the pump; I did'nt realize low speed on that model had such low head pressure. Oh well, that's what research is for...

Great pond. I plan to build a cement pond this weekend this weekend 2 feet deep 2 feet high and put the fish in my little 60 gallon pvs "ponds" in that after its ready.

I love cattails, etc myself that I have lots of as they have reproduced well in the direct sun but the small 'ponds" just get to warm the fish are fine but doubt come July/Aug they will remain fine so going to go with a pond.

I have to dig in lousy 'soil" which I hit rock after 3 inches so going to use a pick the soil here truly sucks.

Will post pics of the cattails today after work.

Nero,

Nice to see your inspiring the masses:) I may as well chip in, I've started clearing the old pond out in our garden. Not sure if I'm going to do much with it unless we decided not to move because I don't really want to drop a load of cash on something that I may not be here to see. If we stay then it will be another story:naughty:

i had asked about heat because i live where it would freeze over if left alone. so can you heat something like that. and what would you have to do.
