stendker discus vs. asian discus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree with Hans. It's very important to know that you're getting your discus all from one source. Disease is easily spread by mixing fish from different sources. Hans has it pretty easy in the fact that all his discus are coming from one source all the time. Since I get fish from different sources, new discus, regardless of where they come from, are held in their own tanks from sometimes several months before they even are allowed in the same room as my other discus. This helps me prevent problems.

Impossible to make a blanket answer on this one. I have seen tons of home bred discus that are better than a lot of Stendkers.....I have also seen some Stendkers that are to die for!

Cut out the middle man and buy directly from breeders in the USA.

You can get great fish from discus breeders like Mike Misuraco (Midwest Discus), Peter Thode (Gwynnbrook Farm), Bill Schroer(Inland Empire Discus) & Eric Lacroix (Carolina Discus). And these are just a few actual discus breeders in the USA. Check local fish clubs, aquabid.com, other fish forums and craigslist.org for more local discus breeders in your area. Buy American!

I agree. It goes back to what I orginally said. Most any fry with good genes, can become nice fish with proper care.

I have been keeping discus for the last couple of years. I have purchased fish from Hans and Kenny/Forest. All have been real nice fish. I have found the Asian fish to be healthier and easier to keep. I have to wonder if the long term same strain breeding has weakened the Stendker line. They seem more prone to disease. The only discus fish I've ever lost have been Stendkers. The fish from Forest-Kenny are still going strong and have never been sick.

OK, lets go over this again just like we did when you tried this BS on simply (http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?85978-New-fish-coming-from-Hans)...

There is overwhelming support on all forums and in general for Hans fish. The fact that you had a problem is unfortunate but is YOUR problem as again - the vast majority of people that get fish from Hans have NO problems and usually lots of spawns.

It looks very bad for you to dig up a year old thread in another attempt to bash Hans fish.

Get over it.

Jim, THANKS but let it go, don't waste your time on this. Or he's on a mission or he gets paid for this, who else would go trough all this trouble lol

:banhim:I'm used to crazy people like this :screwy:, they grow the Discus for a year, get them to spawn, spoke their Discus, they die and of course it's the fault of the Discus, the breeder or the seller,

Hans

Hi Alan, maybe in July = ACA 2011?? I'm flying in so I won't bring Discus, sorry.

About the guy a little back.

Who thought my life was easy lol lol

You know some times you get somebody like that, it makes you sad, but than something like this (see bellow) happens and you think, What do I care.

I got a call last week from a very nice lady from Texas, Christine

Called my cell and asked for a manager or somebody in charge, so I asked her, I'm the owner, is that good enough? After she got it that my name was part of the company name and got over the shock that THE Hans picks up the phone himself, we had a very nice conversation. She bought 5 Discus at the store Aquatek in Austin, TX, back in April '08.

She just wanted to tell me how happy she was with her Discus and send me the picture and a link.

You know those things make my day,

Not sure about in the USA. But in the UK, Stendkers are considered a bit more adaptable than Asian bred fish. They are supposed to be more tolerant of harder water with a higher ph than what Asian fish would be happy with.
