in my experience velvet is pretty rare. they only fish i have ever seen with velvet are angels. I'm not saying you don't have it. i don't know. but if you really think you do, then treat the tank for velvet.

if you're having a hard time getting the jacks to eat i would toss some isis shrimp in there. I've never seen a fish turn down miss shrimp.

i thought you removed all the other fish from the tank? did you remove them then readd them? what is in there? the pair of jack dempseys, a convict and some silver dollars?

someone once told me that if you mess with a jack dempseys tank too much they become really reclusive. and that it only gets worse with age. like i said already, i saw so many jack dempseys donated to the store because they were "boring".

like i said, the gold on the silver dollars is totally normal. not sure what to tell you about the convict. sometimes i see yellowish hues on my convict.

but if you have all these fish in the tank and they're all eating but the only ones acting weird are the jd.... 1) the jd are sick and need to be separated from the rest. 2) they are being shy and don't want to eat in front of you. the silver dollars are just out competing them for food.

Velvet disease looks like it sounds. It's like ich, only the spots are much smaller and a lot more of them. It's very lethal if you don't start treatment immediately.

Keep the lights off for the entire treatment. Use Malachite Green, Formalin or Copper Sulfate. Follow directions precisely and leave the lights out. Cover the glass, if possible.
