What is the significance of the spiked disc on the albino ray? I'm asking because my marbled motoro hybrid female has spikes on the rear of her disc on either side of her tail. Is it a more desirable trait? Cheers mate
I’m not certain but assume it may be a defensive trait. It looks pretty cool though😉

Not necessarily "significant" but these enlarged spikes are something pearl rays are known for having. These are large denticles that form spike like formations on the disc and tail. IME, it's just a characteristic of the breed.

You can see it too on hybrids with large amounts of pearl blood (for example albino hybrids from overseas). I am not sure if other species are capable of such growths, but common with big pearls. All of my pearls have it, but they only became noticeable when the animal was close to its max size.

Sorry to derail thread!

Kolossus Kolossus I'll PM you if I can make space. Let me move stuff tonight 😂😂

Damascus Damascus thanks mate! I have a marbled hybrid. I didn’t know the mix, I can pretty confidently say now it’s pearl!

I am unaware if other species have these growths as well, but pearls definitely do! They look so cool on albinos 😎
