just wanted some info on these too. the true saltwater ones how big of a tank and tankmates. And are these easier or harder to keep than anglerfish. thanks.

easy to keep, almost impossible to obtain. True stone fish very rarely show up on dealers lists. If you can find one cool, but no tank mates they will either be food or a constant annoyance to your pet rock nibbling all the time. I've been maintaining one (10") at a public aquarium, now for years in just a 15 low(24x12x12 approx).

This is one to leave alone. A stone fish will kill you before you realize you've made a mistake.

That said, if you can find one, they do very well. I had one for awhile. Obviously, kept it alone. Strong feeder when offered live food. Hit and miss on prepared things. I had it in about 200 gallons of very shallow, slow moving water with lots of hiding spots / live rock.

Stone fish are awesome fish. No one should discourage anyone not to get something they want. Unless of course they do not know how to care for it. Stone fish are VERY easy to care for and make a very interesting pet! I highly recomend getting one, just dont try to hand feed it!

thanks for the info. Just wanted to know how toxic their poison is. And local hero you had urs in a 15 gallon tank?!! I heard they need big tanks because their large food intake.

I don't know what a true stone fish is but if you give me the scientific name I probably could have you one in a couple of weeks, as for as hardy goes they are very hardy, I have one here in my display tank, and he eats every thing that as big as him.

from what I have heard they are hardy, undemanding fish, but are EXTREMELY venomous and could kill you in a blink of an eye if you got enough in you.
