Zugs I have a course grain sand that’s is mixed with almost pebbles that can give a nice natural look in one of my tanks. It has served me well.

Dloks Dloks bro you would be surprised how hard it is to find big tanks in Ontario. When I was there on my scouting mission last month I couldn’t find much at all. That’s why I am bringing 2-3 tanks from here when I move. The prices are brutal. People sell setups on kijiji for whatever they pay in the store or even more. I was quite disgusted tbh. I find sweet deals all the time here in Alberta.
Do you by chance have the names of the sand and gravel you use? Perhaps any links?

Canada eh
Not really. I got it from a lfs (local fish store) near me. What I would suggest is try a quarry or some sort of concrete place. I found out that is where the lfs sources their supply from after I spent $70 on sand.

Gentleman maybe but I’m certainly not a scholar. I’m just a guy that is willing to help out my fishkeeping comrades.

Are there any substrates with a black/brown (dirt) look like in this video?

Obviously maybe not the Seachem Flourish Black Sand as it may have caused the whole algae problem the guy is having.

But I do love that dirt look. Not pure black as to look artificial but like natural dirt.Anything that you know of? Would getting substrate for a planted take without having any plants be a bad idea? Maybe too expensive? I don't need algae or other things growing as this will be my first setup. Want to start slow.
