awesome what size koi?? Because if their big that seems super over stocked but I'm guessing they are small or else you would give them something similar size to my main koi pond lol
Thank you! I have to know exact measures before I going to a local fish shop here. I'm not from States. Shop owners here are still new to the concept of bog filter, so I can't ask their recommendations.Thats what I do......I use a submersible Laguna filter with UV running as a filter and I use a separate more powerful pump to run the falls.....i have a large foam type prefilter on the waterfall pump to help handle sludge.....My pond is 40 years old and i never completely empty it to remove built up sludge. I will never have a completely clear pond but my water is looking better and better......i am not sure what the maximum flow of a 40 watt UV is.....the manufacturer should know.View attachment 1424243
Less than one feet. I think they will do fine for a few years at least. ? How big is your main koi pond and what's the stock? If you have a bog filter, can you please help me out here to sort out final measurements.awesome what size koi?? No, not one feet. Less than one feet. Different sizes and biggest ones are close to one feet.50x 1ft koi!! that's a recipe for disaster that is so overstocked I think you hopefully meant 15.my mainpond is a 50,000 gallon natural koi mud pond waiting to be stocked with more koi ranging from 18-28 inches I will be posting a thread on it in due course
Thank you very much! Very informative and helpful. I'll read your thread. I feel like I can save a lot of energy if I used a separate lower speed pump for UV light instead of using the same pump of bog. What might be the lowest speed but effective pump for UV of about 30w? And about the bog pump, should I put it in pond or bog for better results? And also an Idea about whether to choose submersible pump or external pump please.Ideally you want to turn the pond volume one time per hour. Your pond is roughly 3200 gallons so you should install a 3600 gph pump accounting for head loss.
Bog filters are great for controlling nitrate but may be difficult to clean once it is full of detris. Bog can be 1/3 the ponds surface area or larger.
UV for most koi ponds are for controlling green water. For green water all you need is 22 mJ/cm^3 of UV dosage (see my thread for UV dosage). You can get by with a 58W UV at 2400gph for a dosage of 24mJ/cm^3. If you want to run the entire 3600 gph through it then a 80W UV would be your choice.
I see. Thank you! Can you please give your opinion on below filter diagram?I do not recommend turning down the speed to get a higher dosage. Dosage sizing is based on wattage. Not circulating enough of the pond water through the light deems it ineffective.
