Looks like the datnoides has become something of a sport fish in some areas which should bode well for the future of the species.

My goodness!.....there is a catfish in there too,or is that an eel?

If anyone is on Instagram check out “Venus Aquatics”. They have lots of info and pics of Sumatra dats.

This is true. They’re almost all in tanks or displayed in someone’s hand. Thus far, was only able to find a wild caught photo from Sumatra (post #7). Most photos and videos have been from the Borneo island, Kalimantan Provinces. This is where indos are commercialized, and believe ornamental trade has been established.

As for the Sumatran Dats. It has been mentioned several times on MFK I believe regarding pollution towards their habitat. Largely due to the chemical runoffs and illegal dumping from the palm tree oil plantations. Therefore, the locals believe have reduced fish populations endemic to this region.

Anybody know if there is Microlepis (indo Dat) in Irian Jaya/Papua region of New Guinea? I know NGT is one, but curious on Indos. Irian Jaya is a Indonesia territory. What isn’t, lol.
