Jim is right, it is always best to leave the pH as is unless you're using a natural buffer. Driftwood for example can lower pH, crushed coral can raise it. Bluegill and longears should both be fine at 8, they're both wide spread, hardy and adaptable fish.
Agreed.

Drift wood would lower the ph, and crushed coral will raise the ph. Try and mimic the enviorment of the fish in question.

hey they live down here in south florida area 8.0-8.3ph i dont know if that helps

Lol yes in fact as a whole the ph is higher than the ocean which is 8.2 . Some lakes loaded with sun fish are 8.4 the driftwood look like rocks as covered with calcium deposits .

Its liquod cement .

i used to keep blueglls and that type off bullhead in my other thread and id regulate the ph just by getting pond water from the pond. i dont think that is recomended tho

all sunfish can tolerate a wide variety of ph as they are found in thousands of bodies of water all over the country with different ph

I used to try to adjust PH using the things mentioned by LePaton, and SandTiger, Which will absolutely work, Plus Peat in the filter to soften and acidify, but it just seemed to be an effort in futility because when i did water changes, everything i had just tried to do with those natural things got undone, when i added 7.6 source water back to replace the now adjusted water in my tanks. So i just gave up and let the fish adjust to 7.6 No Harm No Foul
