Is there anyway to tell Male/Female green sunfish without venting them? would someone be able to sex this guy for me?

Hard to tell that young but I'd lean towards a female. As they get larger, males tend to grow larger and are more vividly colored than females. What creek or lake did you get yours from, I'm in southwest pa as well.
Green sunfish are in general an aggressive species. My 4.5" female is the boss of her tank with 6-7" creek chubs as tankmates. Males can be complete terrors to the point of killing everything they see, though most individual males can be kept with other aggressive sunfish, they'll just most likely be the dominant fish in the tank.
Oh, cool. I check my LFS every time I go for natives in with feeders but only ever find swamp darters in with ghost shrimp.
Although he doesn't have any pics of green sunfish up, at zimmermans website he has a number of photos of adult male and female sunfish which may help in getting a general idea of sunfish sex determination

he had pics up when I got him but he was way too small. pectrol and anal fins really colored up over the last inch of growth, that with his temperment is why i assumed male. I'll give him a couple more inches.
