W _Wolf Thank you for sharing. Wow, this is severe, I had cases like this too. Watch out as the African cichlids may make it much worse. But you know this it seems. Synodontis would do far better with the cichlids in terms of temperament compatibility. I guess you have tiny cichlids in there that you don't want to be eaten? Otherwise, I'd move the syno there, not the koi.

I have so many fry that I didn't mind, even though the koi had lost it's apatite.
He was so weak that the cichlid start eating the sagging skin it had under, So I moved him out last night into a plastic bin.
Sadly the Koi did not make it the next morning..

W _Wolf yeah, that sounds like entirely way too much stress for the fish between the attacks and the moving and no filtration.

As forecasted, the 5 syno raspers leave 1800 gal for the 240 gal jerk tank:

My S. eupterus "Ted" will occasionally beat the you know what out of my runt ID shark. I will see "Gus" covered in white scratches every few months then he heals

They have lived together for 10 years

celebrist celebrist interesting! It sounds like Ted tries to rasp Gus quarterly but Gus won't have it. You have been walking a thin red line 10 years. Impressive!

10 days in the jerk tank. Little bits are missing from extensions. Hopefully doesn't get worse.

In the absence of strong flow, it seems our water (pH 7.2-7.4, TDS 300 ppm, KH and GH about 5 degrees) doesn't harm the blocks on the scale of years, not significantly anyway, otherwise the blocks become quite rough, as if etched after 5+ years in strong flow.
