Guys, i was wondering if any of you has a tailless stingray or a stingray with a very short tail. What are your experiences with such animals. Any problems or any odd behaviour characteristics or just like any other ray?
If you have one and care to share, pics would be nice too.

just means it was cut by a predator or something. it will heal to a nub as a human limb would and should have no problems competing or anything

I know that Vamptrev has a motoro that had its tail eaten/tore off. He had it listed
in the B & S section.

yup tail was bitten off by an adult ray right after birth.

only difference is no tail

if its cut past the root of the stinger, the stinger will never grow back...

My sabina's tail was broken about halfway down during shipment from Florida, about 6" past the root where the barb would grow from. The barb was either broken off with it or removed by the breeder (not sure) but thus far it hasn't grown back. She doesn't exhibit any issues with it, and it healed without problem. She can still move the remainder of her tail at will and it doesn't seem to bother her. If anything it makes it less difficult for her to turn around in the tank since sabinas normally have pretty long, whip-like tails.

Nice to hear shes all fine. Parts of tails break off quite often without many problems.

Ive seen some stingrays with super short tails, for example on pics from asia. These rays only have like 1" of tail left and look almost round when viewed from above. Anybody has one of those?

Cool, do you happen to have pics of those fish?
I think the only problem with reproduction occurs when the short tail is a genetic deformaty.

I have 2 rays with stub, does not affect their health, once the wound is healed. But if it's a female, it has no way of saying NO to the male except by escaping.

Makes the ray 100% safe though.
