They're not bad with small, quick fish. It's actually bigger stuff they pick on.

I used to keep 3 black sharks together. They fought with each other but left the other fish alone. Becuase there were three of them they tended not to damage each other much. They didn't bug anything.

I wonder if I could keep on in with big balas, tinfoils, silver dollars, 1 oscar, 1 pacu?

I have a 24" black shark. As mentioned above, when they pile on the size, little stuff is left alone. Mine is not too bad by black shark standards, but have kept mine with 18" peacock bass, 14" tinfoils, 18" yellow fin barbs, 13" Balas. It beat the cr*p out of all of these fish on a regular basis. Only the bass were too fast for her all of the time. Currently she pics on the 18" red tail giant gourami and the mahseer, hopefully once the other red tail giant gourami grows up a bit more, it will get some of the aggression and spread things out a bit. She has stripped and killed an 18" mad barb in one evening. She ignores the other big sharks (labeo boga, labeo calbasu, labeo barbatus, labeo ruddi) as they are too small at the moment and keep well out of her way. You will of course need to upgrade the 90 fairly soon, mine is in a 10'x2'x2' and commands the tank no problem. Oh, forgot to mention, the only fish that kicked her butt were a labeo rubropunctatus and lobocheilus sp?. The rubro was too small and too aggressive for the big girl to turn around and defend herself. The lobocheilus developed its scale eating habits well on her so had to go too.

ok thanks to everyone who gave information especially the last piece, very interesting
