I recently got an Electric Blue Jack Dempsey. Does anyone know what kind of fish I can have with him as a tank mate or is it best just to keep him with other EBJD''s? Any advice with be great
Dithers such as silver dollars or tinfoil barbs. Also severums and clown loaches are good tankmates. EBJDs are no where near as aggressive as regular JDs. Housing it with other EBJDs works best
I thought I replied but I guess it didn't post. I have him in a 55 gallon tank. It's the only fish in there. I heard though that you shouldn't introduce other fish to him until he is around 3 inches big because it may cause stress and he might die? Is that true? Mine is only about 1 1/2 inches big right now
I too have just got one i currently have him in a 55 gal with a tank divider on the other side is a regular female jd with female convict and female gt all above 2 1/2 inch im going to allow them to see each other for about a week or two before i introduce him currently im on second day of melafix in the water no signs of stress at all if anything hes attempting to attack the bigger fish not to mention the appitite.
id have to say mine is about 5 months or less for the jd and well my new ebjd is young yet like a said inch and half<first day >second dayhes a lil beat up cuz they had him with some other fish but then moved cuz he was too aggressive with the other fish so he be fixed give or take a week or two with the melafix. i started with brine shrimp but he accepts New life spectrum 1mm or 2mm or wardley crushed ciclid pellet, wardley shrimp, blood worms of course, and i started him on Hikari gold (i crushed the floating pellets into edible sinkable size)today.
i just introduced my 3 1/2 Female Green Terror after 4 days of malefix and 75% water change i split the tank in half now the jd convict and RD is on the side with powerhead cuz their older and i figured they dont need as much filtration plus im getting rid of them soo.. heater and filtration on right side with my ebjd and GT and absolutly No Problems yet between the two infact the gt is pacing the divider up and down as if she was happy to be rid of the jd and convict who constantly pursued her. The Gt and EBjd are currently even sharing the same log with not even a single nip yet
Three of my EBJD growouts are kept with some giant danios, rainbow fish, and a couple guppies as dithers. They could care less about them! They also share their tank with some corys, a single german ram, 4 swamp darters, and some snails. It's an odd mix but they are thriving!
