1. 25 feet diameter pond with huge rays and dorados.
2. Asian pond comm - all kinds of spiny eels, pangasius, goonches, mahseers and Giant Gouramis
3.african comm, 3foot + bichirs + tigers
4. Sturgeon + wels pond :)
My taste has slightly changed..
My new dream tank would be a huge outdoor pond with at least one of every coldwater species I can get my hands on, and all fish would have to be 30"+.
I very well plan on doing this sometime in the future...

6x12x3. spiney eel comm tank
6x12x3. gar tank 1 of every species except gator
12x12x3. ray pond. tigers

220 planted comm tank. guppies!

prolly keep a group of vatfs with teh rays.... bichir with the gar.... silver arrowanas with the eels.
Kinda there! instead of the tanks we have a pool now that houses at least 1 of every gar species except shortnose, and spotted... and they share it w/ some rays ( not tigers.. but its getting there!) and a big spiney ( i have some smaller ones that i'm afraid the gar would eat atm)

and the 220 would be for the aba aba knife not the guppies =) thougth they can visit if they want!

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. My dream tank would be set up as more of a display.

8-10x4x3 water section with an air section 4-5 feet build on top. Main think tying the two sections together would be a large tree. Root structure would be constructed of Malaysian hardwood and landscape foam with a pvc piping structure. Upper section would be made using corkbark, manzanita, and landscaping foam again with a pvc structure. The "tree" would be planted with various epiphytes; bromeliads, tillies, nepenthes mounted as epiphytes, etc.

Water section would be a plywood build with one large window in the front. Probably use epoxy to seal the tank, as I've used this before with some success. Would be stocked with gars, larger doradids and larger plotosidae cats if I ever manage to track some down. The water area would be decorated with some taller growing live plants arranged with driftwood around them to try and prevent them from being disturbed by the fish.

Upper section Would again have one large display window for viewing. Background would be fashioned after a cliff face design using carved foam before being painted. It would be designed with additional pockets for more plants to be planted. The background would extend to the other two sides as well. In the one side would be the hidden door for accessing the tank. Additional decoration would be provided by the use of fake "vines" to give more texture.

Finishing this off would be a misting system installed to keep the humidity up and water the plants. Fans would be mounted on the one wall out of view to blow air across the window to prevent condensation on the glass. Air movement would also be beneficial to the plants. Lastly would be lighting. Probably use a combination of t5's and larger watt led's set on various timers to simulate a gradual increase and decrease in lighting for dawn/dusk.

I put so much detailed thought into any project its impossible to even convey a single dream tank in a single thread. It begins with what room is the tank going in, what type of tank is it (planted community, African cichlid, monster amazon, odd ball, pond etc.) Then there is matching the specific size and type of aquarium to that. Designing a stand and canopy solution to match, then engineering the filtration system specifically to service the type of tank. Then you have stock... what are the centerpiece specimens? who is the dominant fish? What about a cleanup crew??? What kind of substrate, what kind of décor, do I paint the back black or blue, what temp are the lights? There are a thousand questions I still have...

Sorry I can't put a legit response here.

My dream tank in both fresh and salt:

Fresh: I'd like a massive south american stingray biotope. I'd stock it with geos and freshwater rays. I'd opt for something 6-8' long and 3' wide. It wouldn't be too tall

Salt: I'd like a massive FOWLR with sharks and some larger predatory fish like groupers, snappers, etc. For this i'd probably go a custom tank/pond. 10' L x 8' W or something. Dedicate a corner of a basement or a room in a house.
