Tanked ATM

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I really wish they would tell us how much these tanks cost in their show though. That's one of my biggest dislikes about the show

Sent from my iPhone using MonsterAquariaNetwork app

There was a posting a while back about this from a guy whose sister worked there. The tanks are given to them for free for allowing the show to be filmed but they must pay for the livestock. The fish for the dentists tank were all eaten and the sharks died or something like that. I think the black tip went blind and rubbed its nose raw from hitting the tank and a bad infection set in. I forget what happened to the nurse shark.

Sent from the black hole that is my world.

I know for a fact that tanked is fully staged BS. I was able to see the filming of the show in person. This season will air an episode were they build a tank into an orthodontics office in West Islip, NY. I was there. They built a ridiculously awesome tank that is actually built into the building, i mean it cant be removed part of the structure. So filming day they are all there sitting around all day doing nothing while hired help fills this gigantic tank for hours. They provide written script to the doctor as he has to react on camera to the tank. Then re-shot all the the scenes several times, completely false from start to finish, not reality TV just acted like anything else on TV. Not the worst, they always talk about acclimation, this was a salt water shark tank, they threw thousands of dollars worth of fish into this tank without any acclimation at all. Several nice sized sharks and a ton of other salt water fish that should not have been with the sharks. Within 48 hours only 2 fish were left alive a small shark blinded by bashing himself into the wall of the tank and a large nurse shark that almost burst from eating so many dead fish. It was a horror show. The doctor had to pay for all the fish. The tank is free from the show. Seriously disturbing what so called fish lovers will do for money and fame. The filters were not even ready to be used these guys filmed and walked out fish started dying within hours. These guys are scum.

Wow, I've always felt that show was a bit off, but that is a bit disturbing. It's a shame because the way the show is run is for ratings. A show where things are done proper is one most likely only people like us who frequent this kind of forum would enjoy. However, that doesn't sell very well to the majority of the knuckle head population, and the animals suffer because of it.

No reality TV is REAL. I've said it over and over. Both Tanked and FTK are the same way. The other thing to remember is that often times the install company has to meet the demands of what the client wants. There are times when the client goes directly against the 'expert recommendations' of the staff at either place and wants fish instantly.

However, the crew at ATM are top notch when it comes to really building tanks.
The last shark display I worked a bit with them on was with a $6-8 million budget. It got put on a back burner for now, but it shows that they don't really waste time with little stuff.
The price for the 'home' sized tanks is based off what they would be making profit wise if that invested that same amount of time into one of their bigger projects.

Here was a quote I got from them. This was March 5th 2012, so a year ago. I would bet you the price would be more now.

Hi Kevin
First, thank you for your tank request. The 448 gallon, 96x30x36x1, will cost you $6,050.00, which only includes the tank, lids, black colored back, and both side over-flow boxes. If you need a full quote, filtration, lighting, stand, etc., let me know and I can get it back to you as soon as possible. Also, if you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime.

Thanks again Kevin

Best Regards
