I have a new 45 gallon that I will put a senegal bichir in. What tankmates can I put if I can even put tankmates.

The normal rule for polypterus anything that can't fit in their mouth. Don't mix them with aggressive territorial cichlids.
or you can mix other bichirs like any species of them but rather use other aggressive fish with bichirs as in my opinion can nip the bichir’s fins including cichlids like jaguar and oscars and convict cichlid and firemouth cichlid and other aggressive cichlids thats all thanks !
tbh, I think the list should be what tank mates bichir SHOULDN'T be kept with bichirs in general
I think bichirs are very chill and peaceful fish as long as a few conditions are met
-no fish small enough or slow enough that the bichir can take. bite out of
-flagtails and other sucker fish are usually a bad idea as they have been knwonto suck off the slime coat for most slow fish
-no extremely territorial fish or ones especially angry, as bichirs don't really have a defense
bichirs do pretty well with gars and other ancient fish (check
Hao
's tanks and many other bichir keepers)
