Tatt care advice?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ive had a band rodone on my arm as it looked faded not long after i had it done and some of it looks the same, faded and a bit blotchy. ive spoke to a few tat artists up and down the country (i move alot) and they all say that very occasionally the ink just doesnt take to some skin. its only the last 2" that look faded and has some pale patches, the rest looks fine.

I'm sure care varys a little by what you're reading in this thread. Most sound correct. But what I was told:

A&D ointment(which you can get at the drug store) or similar first few days. Wash it 1 hour after you get it with anti-bacterial soap. Then again before bed. Reapplying ointment after you wash it. Keep the tattoo away from pools and long showers, direct sunlight for at least two weeks. Reapply the ointment as much as needed to keep it covered until it starts to peel. Then start using an unscented lotion like lubriderm for about two weeks.

No, I'm no newbie to tattoos. I have 4. But this last one when I got it, the colors faded and the black looked "foggy" like graying out. Anyway, I went back for a retouch, and now I'm like scared as to how to care for it. I feel as though I don't know what I'd doing, though I've done it many times  I'm just scared it will happen again!

I left the bandage on all that day and night and took it off in the morning.

Why did you do that? let it get air and keep it moist.

I rinsed a little and put lotion on it. After that I put lotion on every 4 hours or so.

Lotion is BAD for a new tat. You need to use A&D ointment. Or a tattoo balm. NOT neosporin. It will pull color out. After 4-7 days you can stop using that and move onto lotion. but only NON fragrance lotion. B/c the smelly stuff usually has alchoal (sp) in it and that will burn.

Not a thick coat just like enough. Should I do more or less? ps- i use lubriderm unscented

And avoid soap right??

You NEED to wash with an anti-bact. Soap Keeping it clean will prevent infection. Who ever says no soap knows NOTHING. Clean it often then reapply A&D.

Or wth?? Sorry, can you please gimme personal advice? I've already looked at a thousand caresheets and they all say different things. so I don't want another care sheet, just YOUR little tidbit info, please and thankyou :nilly: I'll post a pic of it later.

that's what you need to do. After a few days of A&D and a week or two of lotion It should be looking great. (after that use all the smelly lotion you want) but you won't get the real color of the tattoo for a few months till your skin grows back fully. (you'll know b/c it won't look shinny any more)

Then b/c you're In socal If you want it to look good for a long time you're going to need to keep up with lotion often and sun screen. The sun will fad ink fast.

try that out. I've got an OLD link I'll try to find to show you a little of my stuff so you know I know what I'm talking about.

After it's inked wash with anti-bacterial hand soap in warm water opens pores & cleans from getting infections. Then cold water too slow down the bleeding. Keep it moist there after using Cocoa Butter Solid. I do this with mine & come out just as the day it was done.

I use Tat Wax Ink works really good colors stay in after healing up.

Advice petroleum based products will draw out the ink. Cream based moisturizes & helps keep color in. Leave the bandage off for air dry. Dabbing the tat with a towel not rubbing it dry though. Around a weeks time depending how far you went in on the skin should be healed real good with color remaining the same.
