The only ones I've ever seen have been at the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans and at the reptile show I went to the weekend before last. Should have gotten them...that would be pretty sweet.

Other than that, I remember reading about them when I was little, in this old book called Reptiles as Pets by a man named Paul Vinyard. It was published in the 60s or early 70s. He said they're mildly venemous.

I think most zoo's who keep them breed them. They bred them at NY Bronx zoo in a basic tank with lots wood type set up .

Interesting snakes.

i wouldnt keep them fully in water all the time. can't they get blisters disease like florida water snakes?

They are fully aquatic unlike water snakes like the Forida type you mention which in truth is best kept dry with just a water bowl.

I have spotted one of the males... somewhat resting on the heater.... but not much. Right now I'm using rosy reds...., but it has been suggested to feed them minnows/mud minnows from bait shops (i'm assuming cause they have all the natural nutrition), the biggest females are roughly 20inches... the males are around 18 or so...I didnt feel up the tub all the way.... I felt it would be easier for them to breathe. I have not tried pre killed, I've held live fish between my fingers and slowly tap them in the face with it.... after lets say 3minutes or so of trying... it finally snapped... bit missed...and I figured the hell with trying to feed it.

Skin blisters none soo far..., they get a 25% water change weekly.... brackish water I havent heard of that... i've heard of acidic water. They doo need, so thats why we have the peat moss in there and the drift wood, to bring down the ph.

Availablity right now is low.... you wont really find these anywhere, well not on kingsnake much... there are few places....

strictlys reptiles
us global

mostly the importers... where the ones who carried them...

that get them in every soo often. But just keep a look out... they dont come up often as before.

Great looking snakes . You rarely ever see them for sale yet are CB . I saw them few yrs back at bronx zoo in 55 gallon display with babies the female had.

They fed them platys and guppies which tank had swimming around .

If you acclimate them in Terramycin you'll get no fuzz and no blisters...........Same with Files, Turtles, and any other aquatic Reptile............
